It’s Volunteers Week!
Volunteers’ Week runs from today, Monday 1 June – Sunday 7 June, and we hope you’ll join us in honouring the incredible contributions of volunteers who make our communities stronger every day.
Volunteers are a core pillar of communities, enhancing opportunities, breaking down barriers, and building connections. Trussell Trust food banks are powered by volunteers, and we have a dedicated group of busy volunteers here at Grantham Foodbank.
We hold slots throughout the week for people who need our support. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, clients can come in to collect a food parcel, packed with care by our dedicated team of volunteers, and receive information about other local support services.
But packing and distributing food parcels is just a small part of the work that goes on at Grantham Foodbank. Behind the scenes, we have a team of volunteers who collect and replenish our shelves, weighing food donations to track what comes in and what goes out.
Nigel is one of those volunteers. He’s been regularly volunteering at the food bank for over six months and helps manage the food donations that come into the food bank. A dab hand at what he does, he says he enjoys the opportunity to volunteer regularly and establish a routine, particularly since retiring.
Stephen, another regular volunteer, supports the foodbank in achieving its aim and was pulling in sacks of potatoes donated by a local farm as I caught up with Nigel in the back.
Our volunteers give so much to our organisation; without them, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.
If you’d like to volunteer, get in touch.
We are especially interested in hearing from anyone with experience or a strong interest in fundraising, grants, or partnership building, as we’re currently on the lookout for a Trustee Lead for Fundraising & Grants. If this sounds like you, find out more about the vacancy here.
