Grantham Foodbank Cycle Fest 2015

15 June 2015

cyclefest2015They say “ When the going gets tough the tough get going” and this is certainly true of the 38 riders who took part in this year’s Foodbank Cycle Fest on  Saturday 13th June

Conditions were atrocious with very heavy rain overnight which carried on into the day.

As for last year there were two routes. The 20 mile route took the 18 riders via Marston, Hougham and Dry Doddington and then back to the start and finish at the Belton Garden Centre.

20 riders completed the 45 mile three counties route which went out as far north as Claypole via Marston and Brandon and then onto Car Colston prior to returning via Bottesford and Long Bennington, to the Belton Garden Centre.

Like the previous years, the event was publicised as a challenge rather than a race and was held to raise awareness of the Foodbank and the work it does for those local people in crisis.

Two riders of the event stand out: Brian Oswin who is 80cycle2015 and managed to cover 24 miles and raise £500 in sponsorship and young Joshua Crane who is only 12 and yet managed the long 45 mile route.

Warmest thanks to all the volunteers who helped the day go smoothly and to the local businesses who sponsored the event.
